It all began about nine months ago, when my wife and I decided it would be a good idea to remodel our home. It took a lot of talking about because neither of us really wanted to take the job on as we both have active business lives. However, one Sunday afternoon, I took the bull by the horns and started to strip the paper off the walls and the ceiling in the kitchen. My wife soon joined in.
It took us a month to finish it, because we only had Saturday afternoons and Sunday, but we found that we enjoyed the physical work, we both have desk jobs, and we really enjoyed working and planning together. It was a new but pleasing experience for us.
So, on the day we finished, we prepared a special meal and laid the table properly. After the meal, we sat down to watch a film on TV. But neither of us had been able to do that for a month and we both felt restless. My wife said something like: ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to have another project to do?’ and I reckon we both had the same idea at the same time. Read more...

My experience with the speed drumming is a strange one. Basically, one October day, while picking up some drum sticks at a local music store, I noticed drummers using a device called a “Drumometer. This “drumming speed” measurement device used a practice pad for a striking surface with an embedded piezo trigger. The trigger was connected to a counter-timer computer brain that had a count and a timer display.
Your physical body can always do what you mind can conceive. Before you know it you will be producing you own style that others desire of you. It all starts in the mind.
A typical drumstick has a tip, shoulder, shaft and butt. The tip, also referred to as bead, is the top-most part that strikes the drum. Traditionally, the tip is made of the same hard wood as the rest of the stick.
Vinnie Colauita once said, “Just play in 7 for like an hour”. This is especially insightful as we can often get caught up in studying things too closely and miss the point. Sheer repetition will help lead to more comfort in odd times. Read more...

It is sure that the most important consideration in setting up a home theater system is the size of the room where you will set up the home theater system. Therefore, the size of the most important part of a home theater set-up, which is the screen, is also reliant on the size of the room. Regardless of the size of the room, the minimum suggested size of the screen is 28 inches.
A flat screen television is also suggested, because it will cut down on reflections and glare. Speakers are also dependent on the size of the room. Obviously, you would require more speakers in a very large room than in a small one.
You might want to put a lot of small speakers in a large room or one large speaker in a small room. The acoustics of the room is an important issue in this. Therefore, I recommend that you either get an expert in or get a wireless sound set-up that can be built upon. Read more...

Home theaters have become a standard component in home furnishings. Granted, when everything is turned off, the set up isn’t all that attractive; but when turned on? Yeah, everything is very nice. The thing that really enhances your picture is sound though. Sound will make the train on your nice flat screen not only look like it’s rumbling through your living room but adds a dimension to things by reinforcing the image.
The best way to approach getting the most out of your movie and television watching experience is to look at your tuner. You don’t have one? Don’t worry; I’m going to help you make an informed choice. For those of you who do, I’m going to help you get the most out of what you have.
Before we even begin to look at a tuner it is important that you think about what it is you are hooking up to your TV. Most cable boxes, DVD players, satellite receivers etc can be ran through a tuner. And this is a lovely thing. Still, grab a piece of paper and see about making a list of what kinds of outputs each of these devices have. Keep the list Poindexter; we’re going to need it. Read more...

When most people are looking for a sound system, they usually go directly to the speakers. This is not of necessity wrong, but you must not end there. The speakers are an important element of a sound system, but they are not the be all and end all.
It also essential to think about the player and the amplifier, because any sound system is only as good as its weakest constituent. Another important topic is the positioning of those speakers. It is just as important to position your speakers correctly as it is not to buy cheap speakers. There are also misconceptions about size. Bigger is not always better.
In the past, it was often the case that bigger meant better, but now often the reverse is often the case. Technological development has been concentrated on producing smaller speakers, that will take up less space in our smaller houses and smaller cars. Therefore, the smaller speakers are often the most technologically advanced.
If you are opting for surround sound, which is the best available today, then you will also have to think carefully about placement. That is the positioning of the speakers. In a typical 5.1 surround sound home theater, you will have six speakers: five ordinary speakers and one sub-woofer. Read more...

Not too long ago, watching movies online was not practical due to bandwidth restrictions. That has changed in recent years as more people are gravitating toward high-bandwidth connections. The options for watching movies online today are many, and I will talk about the main ones in this article.
The most important thing for watching movies online is to have a suitably highspeed connection. Without this, it will not be possible to download the large movie files.
If you are on a budget and want to watch films for free, the best option is to use a site called Hulu.com. At Hulu, you may view many tv shows and movies for free, but you do have to watch commercials.
A better option for people who have some money to spend is to pursue online rentals. Sites like iTunes and Blockbuster will allow you to rent a movie online, which usually costs somewhere around $4. The movie can then be downloaded and you have a limited time in which you can view the movie. Read more...

Keeping your CDs and DVDs in good condition is crucial to their longevity. It can be very frustrating when you discover that your audio CD that you haven’t played in a year now skips in your player. CD and DVD media can realistically over 10 years if handled and stored properly. You should also do the following:
Always purchase high quality Grade A blank media discs. You get what you pay for in this market. The best manufacturers, in my experience, are Taiyo Yuden, Sony and Verbatim.
Use specially designed pens for CD and DVD media to write your labels. If you use a normal ballpoint, you risk damaging the recording layer of the disc. The pressure from the tip of the pen might damage the recording layer or, in time, the ink from the pen might damage the layer.
Avoid storing your media in hgih temperatures. Some clients have stored media above their heaters. Optical media can withstand temperatures as high as 50 degrees Celsius, but the optimum ambient temperature is around 25 degrees. Use clam shells, paper wallets or plastic casing to prevent dust and scratches. Also, handle the outside edge of the disc only when you move from the case to drive and back. Read more...
