I am a professional photographer in Costa Rica. The experiences on my tours are many since I never know what my group and I will happen upon. Let me tell you about one of these surprising events.
During one of our Costa Rica Photo Tours, my group drove to a photography location in the beautiful and pristine Osa Peninsula which National Geographic has called “the most biologically diverse place” on earth. To get there we drove through the tiny village of Ojochal near where I live.
One of my groups discovered that moving day for some Costa Ricans can be rather unique. As my group and I were passing through the village we saw an incredible sight. But before I tell you the story let me tell you a bit about the man who was moving.
The fellow who was moving was one of my neighbours, Senor Wilson (real Spanish name, don’t you think?), who has brought my wife and me flowering plants since we moved in. It was really funny the first day that he stood at the top of the driveway with plants in hand. He was so polite that he would not come down to the house without our invitation even though he was there to give us a present. Read more...

My life in Costa Rica has been an outstanding experience with a variety of adventures and events. I have photographed a number of beautiful and incredible sights and this is just one very small example of how close I live to it all.
As you know we have leaf cutter ants in the jungle and they are a very busy lot who work very hard all day long. This is a story about their strength and persistence that happened one day.
An ant we will call Bill, was travelling along with all of his buddies as they were devastating my favourite flowering tree near my driveway. Bill dropped his leaf to pick up something he thought might be more beneficial to the group, a matchstick, the strong wooden type. He began carrying it upright as if it were a leaf. I think he was a little confused but, of course, maybe I was the only one confused.
I wanted to lessen his load so I carefully picked up the matchstick. Astonishingly Bill would not let go and came with the match, his little feet trying to get traction in the open air. Read more...

There are lots of great reasons why you need to know how to take group pictures or family portraits. Many a times, people want their picture taken on the fly and it’s not feasible to have a professional photographer take them.
Every family deserves to have at least one good family portrait together but it’s nice to have additional portraits as the family grows and ages. The best way to learn to take portraits is to practice on your own family or friends! And don’t forget to get in the picture too, if you’re taking your own family portrait! So be sure to use a camera with a remote shutter button release and a timer.
If you’re just learning photography, then taking portraits will also help refine your other photographic skills.
Without further ado, here are some basic tips to help you get started taking memorable family portraits, whether formal or informal.
1) Avoid the “Police Line Up” Portrait – Instead of having everyone stand shoulder to shoulder, try a more varied arrangement that makes it easier to have everyone fit nicely into the picture. Read more...

Can binoculars land safely after flight? All bird watchers know birds land gracefully, softly, at least most of the time. On the other hand, your binoculars do not have wings or feet, when they start flying, they crash hard into the ground. You can expect scratches and fractures. With a neck strap you may have the pleasure of finding out. Bird watchers using a binoculars harness don’t worry when they move, bend, and twist quickly. Their binoculars are safe in front of them through the entire motion.
Do binocular lenses survive sticks and stones? As you move around looking for birds your binoculars swing and sway at every motion on the end of the standard neck strap. One wrong move and they run into a branch or rock outcropping. The one wrong turn suddenly turns your binoculars into scrap metal and shattered glass. Your day is ruined. If you were wearing a binocular harness strap, you would still be enjoying the day, since your binoculars don’t swing around uncontrolled. Read more...

Today, digital photography is regarded as the best kind of photography not just with the business community but also for personal usage. For all those who have moved away from film cameras, it’s vital that you know the various terms related to it.
The first section of the digital photography tutorial is going to focus on the basic parts and terms you ought to understand before handling a digital camera. What follows are the common terms used in digital photography:
1. Pixel – means the smallest part of any digital photograph. A photo image is made up of millions of pixels.
2. Resolution – the total quantity of pixels within a photo. Increasing the resolution will make the picture become sharper. Thus more pixels are essential to attain a better photo image quality.

Ok you might be searching for the latest top end digital camera, and you find the canon 1D Mark 4…
Seems great, right?
You might be thinking about additional advanced digital cameras, sure enough, they seem okay as well, don’t they?
And so, is a Canon 1D Mark 4 a step over? Could it be well worth its fifty five hundred dollar price tag?
Astonishingly, short response, personally I think indeed it is. Nevertheless let us talk about just what sets it away from different dslrs.
Possibly the very first thing you may notice will be the Sixteen Mega-pixels this eos has. Well, if you are anything like myself, you’ll see that, and speculate why it isn’t better.
Yea? Am I correct?
I mean the other quality digital camera in Canon’s dslr line is a 1Ds Mark 3, and it has 21, and so what gives with this particular digital camera?
I was feeling exactly the same, however I realized something, and after doing some research my thoughts ended up being proved.
See, One thing which many people occasionally overlook in relation to larger Mega-pixel counts is that often with those higher counts you’re considerably more vulnerable to noise …quite simply the dslr camera will not cope with intense ISOs well. Read more...

You’re walking through the brush, heading to your deer stand. You see some tracks and bend down to take a closer look, and smack, your binoculars come flying forward and smash through the brush. You quietly curse as you check the lenses to make sure you did not scratch them this time. A standard neck strap does nothing to prevent the wild swinging of your binoculars, if you want to protect your investment you need a binocular harness.
It’s not only when we bend over the binoculars come into danger. Every step we take with a neck strap they wave back and forth, seeking out a twig, stick, or other obstruction to get hung up on. Even when we are climbing up into the stand they swing around getting in our way. This is the kind of troubles a binocular harness solves. Your binoculars are held safely against your chest, out of the way, and not swinging around wildly. Read more...
