An iPad Tablet is the latest invention by The Apple Computer Company. It is called the iPad and literally looks like a small tablet (biblical style). The iPad is about the size of a book held open in your hands, which is actually it’s primary use. Many people use it like its competitor’s product, the Amazon Kindle. IPads have a touch screen and are very much like a large iPhone.
It is to officially go on sale at the end of March, 2010 and orders have already broken records. It has gotten huge amounts of press and made its first major appearance on stage at the Grammy Awards. It was used as a plug for Apple, since the iPad was read from to announce the winner.
From the back you might think it was a really small laptop and from the front you may think it was a really huge iPhone. It is just a very flat computer system that does not stand up. It must be held. It also does not have a mouse or keyboard that come with it, though they can be added. The Kindle e-book reader has been a very successful product for Amazon. The original Kindle was released in November of 2007 – but it was when the Kindle 2 was launched in February of 2009 had e-book readers began to become popular. Amazon followed up with the large format Kindle DX model in June 2009 and the e-book reader market began to grow very rapidly.
The Kindle rapidly became Amazon’s number 1 selling product. Over the Christmas period of 2009 it became Amazon’s “most gifted” product ever. As a result of the growth in the e-book reader market, many other manufacturers launched or updated e-book readers of their own. Air conditioners have always been popular, but they used to be expensive to buy and costly to run. These days they are less expensive to buy. It is not so bad if you live somewhere where you need heating for three months and cooling for three months, but if you live somewhere where you have one unit or other running twenty-for hours a day, seven days a week, it is still expensive.
However, the comfort that they impart to your life is remarkable. But, the thing to bear in mind is that air conditioners, like all pieces of equipment, do need servicing. That is, the actual moving parts, lubricants and other fluids need to be checked professionally every two years (or whatever it says in your handbook). There are other parts though that need to be checked much more frequently than that – maybe even monthly.
The good news is that you can carry out this maintenance yourself. I am talking about the filter. All good, modern air conditioning units come with an in-built filter. It depends on the sophistication of your air conditioner, what its filter can block, but most will filter tiny particles such as pollen and traffic pollution out of the air it is circulating in the room.
